“Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power (Ephesians 1:15-19 NKJV).”
This prayer was the desire of the Apostle Paul who prayed for the church at Ephesus. He wanted more than anything that they would see and know Christ, the greatness of His power towards them, and how important they were to the Lord. This same prayer is the Lord’s desire for you, too. The fourth chapter of the book of Revelation gives us a glimpse of glorious activity that was going on in the throne room of God. Angelic beings that were given “eyes around and within” are seen beholding the Lamb and worshiping along with the other angels and elders crying “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” When we as Christians begin to behold Him, we are being transformed into His image from glory to glory – in other words, we are being transformed into His nature and begin to reflect His glory.
Many things of life can distract us, causing us to focus on our natural circumstances rather than the Lord. That was the difference between two sisters, Mary and Martha. In Luke 10:38-42, we find Mary sitting at Jesus’ feet and hanging on to His every word – undistracted. Jesus was the sole focus of her attention. He was all she could see. Martha, on the other hand, was focused on doing immediate tasks and so failed to see the glory of the One who was present with them. Mary sat in Jesus’ presence while Martha served in His presence. Both important, however Jesus said Mary chose the better part.
You, too, will be choosing the better part if you decide to focus your attention on Jesus, His Word, and His beauty. Allow the eyes of your hearts to behold His beauty.
