And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him – 1 John 4:16, NIV
To be able to love others, you have to first believe without a doubt that God loves you. However, many Christians who say they know that God loves them do not really believe it. It’s important that we move from head knowledge of God’s love to acceptance that it is so!
It is possible that you do not believe it because of things that have occurred in your past: abuse, criticism, hurts…and you now believe that you are unlovable! You can do something about your thinking about God’s love by:
- Allowing the word of God to change how you see yourself;
- Fill your thoughts with the warm words of God’s love and not with what others have said about you; and
- Begin to agree with what the word says – YOU ARE LOVED!
As you do these things, you will begin to get a picture that God really cares about you. Yes, you will experience the refreshing agape love that does not depend on what you have done in the past, but on the reality that His love is available and is flowing your way.
All you need is God’s LOVE, and guess what? You are already qualified!
